A philological study on poisoning and side effects of Artemisiae Argi Folium(艾葉)

Abstract

|
Artemisiae Argi Folium is in use in the Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Artemisiae Argi Folium for expelling pathogenic cold from channel(溫經散寒), promoting the flow of qi(通絡), stopping bleeding(止血), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, side effects, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Artemisiae Argi Folium. The results were summarized as follows： 1. The main ingredients of poisoning are oil of Artemisiae Argi Folium, terpineol, thujone, terpinen-4-ol, etc. The ingredients of poisoning from Artemisiae Argi Folium mainly can cause stimulating symptoms on digestive system, nervous system, etc. And in case of external use of Artemisiae Argi Folium, that can cause hypersensitive reaction on the skin. 2. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in Korean medicine, the Korean medical doctors should meet symptoms as patients call for attention. 3. The representative methods in poisoning treatments in western medicine are washing out the stomach, causing diarrhea, symptomatic treatment, etc. And the patients should be taken to stable room. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning of Artemisiae Argi Folium, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
